Jeté [ zhuh-TAY]

A Jeté is a common leap performed by dancers in many styles of dance including ballet, jazz and lyrical.  It literally means "to throw" one's leg into the air in a leap.

Marissa began dancing at age four, and it became the major focus in her life at age 10, as she entered the realm of competitive dancing at a dance studio in western Wisconsin.  Marissa competed in tap, jazz, ballet and lyrical for eight years, and remembers the rush of energy, excitement, and anticipation she felt right before performing as a highlight of this experience.  Marissa’s mom has always said that dancing transformed her from a shy, anxious, quiet child into a confident, outgoing and creative young woman.  Marissa still holds a love for dancing, and has continued to take classes at JDC.

She assisted classes at her dance studio while she completed high school and choreographed and taught lessons in tap, jazz, and ballet through her hometown Community Education program for four years.  Marissa’s involvement in the Adult Dance program at JDC led to her accepting a permanent teaching position.  She is currently in her second year of teaching classes at Jeté Dance Centre.

Marissa has a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education, and currently teaches first grade at Otsego Elementary School.
